Almost done!

Getting close to done!

Here are some pictures to tease you a bit!

I am much farther along than these pictures are going to show. Since my last post I have taken out and put back in the zipper:
I had put the lining and the outside of the dress on the same side of the zipper so everything was a mess. When I tried the dress on it was super itchy and I realized that the way I had it defeated the purpose of even having a lining. I am not sure what I was thinking of course the zipper goes between the outside and the lining! It fits much better this way too and it looks nice and neat. I hand stitched the lining to the zipper first (just a loose stay stitch to keep it in place) and then I hand stitched the outside to the zipper.

I tried the dress on with some accessories that were given to me by the lady I work for too:
I can't wait to show off the finished product!

You can see how incomplete it was here but since then I have added a lot more organza to the bottom and it is longer in the back

Thanks you to my friend Scarlet for her help and for taking these photos!
Since the above photos were taken, I have slowly made progress. Finishing the edges of the organza has taken a lot of time and sewing it on has been scary. You can see how much fabric was in my machine below:
I was very careful to keep an eye on everything so that I didn't accidentally stitch something I shouldn't

And then I had to buy more...
That is what 4 yards of unfinished organza looks like! Yikes! To say the least I was not looking forward to finishing all of that edge.

But I finished it and now it is attached to the dress and I have a few things left to do so I will run along and do them :)

T-14 days until the wedding!

Getting close!

I am finally at it again...

Still not unpacked from Vegas.. ain't nobody got time fo dat!

I have finally started on the bottom of my dress! First I had to cut off excess fabric and finish the edges on the bottom part of the top it looked like this:

 And then this:

And then I finished the bottom edges together using a good old zigzag stitch so I was ready to add some organza to the bottom. I took about a yard of organza, put the wrong sides together, and used a zig zag stitch to finish the edges together, turned it right side out, and pinned it on the dress:
But I realized I would need to finish the side edges of the organza and I did not want it to look really bulk so I looked at a tutorial :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TfnQcn_SAGM
That lady seems to know what she is talking about and I did not want to fold the material because it loses some of the flow when you fold to hem and it hangs much differently. Basically I did a zig zag stitch and then melted the fraying parts so that it looks smooth and will not fray again. If you use this tutorial I highly recommend practicing to find out how close you can put the fabric to the flame because if you put it too close  you will end up with a black mark.

Below you can see that I pinned the organza to the dress the way I planned to stitch it: between the two organza layers.

The picture below shows what the edges look like after being finished

I attached the organza using a straight stitch and my usual top stitch needle and satin foot. Then I tried it on and played around with how I will do the pickups:

I think I like the looks of this better and I will probably do this... Now back to sewing!
Thanks for reading and stay tuned for more! I plan to finish very soon :)

Side note:
check out this awesome pic my friend took of the sunset through a barnacle:

UPDATE!

One month to go time and I am not done Yikes!

Where have I been???

All over the place really! It's been quite a while since my last post because I was in Colorado tasting cake (YUM) and attending a graduation. Then I was entertaining my little brother who came out to visit me and then I was in Vegas having the time of my life (because you are never really to get married without having done that right? haha.)

Just wanted to let my readers know I did work on my dress a little bit this morning and there are pictures coming soon (hopefully tonight.) I am trying to find a work around for the sweetheart top since that was not originally in my plans I will have to find a way to make it work and I am finally going to get started on some bead work and the bottom of the dress! Stay tuned!
